Atkins Diet-Atkins Diet Introduction Phase
Does the Atkins Diet Work? Atkins Diet Plan and Atkins Diet Food List
This is the principle of lifelong nutrition, based on the consumption of a balanced healthy diet and nutritional supplements. The Atkins diet restricts consumption of processed / refined carbohydrates (which constitute 50% of the diet of most people), such as sweets, pastries, cereal products, starchy vegetables. Since the release of the first book, “Dr. Atkins Diet Revolution” in the 70s – about 20 million people worldwide have successfully used this diet.
The Atkins Diet has three main phases.
At first, challenging phase, which usually lasts 2-3 weeks, it is necessary to limit carbohydrates to 14-20 grams per day. During this time the body gets used to a new lifestyle, normalizes metabolism, and is the most significant weight loss – an average of 4 to 12 lbs, depending on the initial body weight and degree of normalization of metabolism.
The reason is that in the absence of carbohydrates in the body are formed ketone bodies (so-called benign ketosis), in which energy is not taken from food, but from its own fat. Thanks to the power supply of protein and fatty foods, and then through ketosis you do not feel hunger, that is,the Atkins diet is pretty easy (apart from the weakness and dizziness in the first few days, caused by the alteration of the organism).
Then comes the next phase, in which you can slightly increase the amount of carbohydrates – but so that ketosis does not stop. In this case-the increase in carbohydrates is necessary. Someone can afford to consume 100 grams of carbohydrates a day, without ceasing to lose weight, others have already ketosis stops at ’30 To determine the amount of ketone bodies in urine test strips can be ordered. This phase can last indefinitely, until you have established your desired weight.
The final phase – maintenance, you should not be allowed to return dropped pounds! Add more carbs, but watch your weight and volume. If the weight starts to return, there ian urgent need to reduce carbohydrates. If you will come back too quickly – you have to return to the challenging Atkins diet.
